Long scale octave mandolins
Revealing at last the instrument I have been working on recently - its a long scale octave mandolin with an arm bevel and deep bout making it very comfortable to play. Top is western red cedar, back and sides a beautiful Indian rosewood, mahogany and flame maple neck with a 23" scale and Schaller M6 locking tuners.
The bracing is unusual, modelled on the Taylor V-style - its has a big big bottom end and can be felt across the room! Traditional nitrocellose finish and K&K twin spot pick up fitted as standard.

From M.S, Custom guitar-bouzouki, December 2025
I am lucky enough to own a Mattey guitar-bodied bouzouki and it is a very fine instrument indeed. I have a dozen bouzoukis made by some of the best makers on the planet, including an Abnett and 2 Nybergs. The Mattey is perfectly at home amongst the best in my collection. Dave is a very talented maker whom I consider ranks amongst the best in the business. He’s also a very handy chap to know if you need any repair or maintenance work done on fretted instruments, all of which is done to the same high standard as his builds.
